LONDON(RAHNUMA): King Abdullah of Jordan and the president of Finland, Alexander Stubb, attended a military tactical exercise in Amman on Monday.
It took place at the King Abdullah II Special Operations Training Center, which trains special operations units at the regional and international levels.
King Abdullah stressed the importance of efforts to enhance the defense capabilities of the armed forces, and strengthen cooperation with partners to address security challenges and maintain stability. It came after the two leaders met on Sunday to discuss security challenges.
Jordan and Finland are this year celebrating the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations with collaborations in the education and technology sectors.
They both face security challenges in their respective regions. The Middle East continues to be affected by the US and Israeli military action against Iran that began on Feb. 28. Finland joined NATO in April 2023, after neighboring Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 and increased its military buildup close to the border with Finland.
The Finnish Border Guard has trained for an all-out war with Russia after Moscow threatened the Baltic country, on several occasions, with action if it provided Ukraine with assistance through access to its territory.
The king and President Stubb were accompanied at the military exercise by Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces.
