Ponguleti orders weekly reviews to speed up housing scheme

Hyderabad, April 27 (RAHNUMA): Minister for Revenue, Housing, and Information & Public Relations Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy stated that the government is decentralising powers and assigning greater responsibilities to district collectors to ensure faster and more transparent implementation of the prestigious Indiramma Housing scheme.

He directed the collectors to prioritise the scheme and conduct weekly reviews with district housing officials. To ensure better coordination with public representatives and prevent issues at the ground level, a special officer will be appointed for each erstwhile district, the Minister said.

A review meeting on housing and revenue matters was held at the Housing Corporation Head Office in Hyderabad on Monday with elected representatives and officials from the erstwhile Nizamabad and Adilabad districts.

The meeting was attended by in-charge Ministers, MPs, MLCs, MLAs, district collectors, additional collectors, and housing officials. Constituency-wise detailed discussions were held, and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy responded immediately to issues raised by the elected representatives, issuing necessary directions.

The Minister stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, the Indiramma Housing scheme will remain a continuous process.

“Even those who did not apply earlier can now apply, and if found eligible, will be sanctioned houses. Suggestions from public representatives will be duly considered, and they are encouraged to actively participate in the implementation process,” Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said.

The Minister said that 3,500 houses have been sanctioned per constituency without political bias, and urged MLAs to take special initiative to ensure timely construction.

In cases where beneficiaries are unable or unwilling to construct houses, those units should be reassigned to other eligible individuals, he said.

Officials were instructed to release pending payments immediately after completion of the basement stage, especially where technical issues have delayed bills. Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy emphasised that officials should adopt a humanitarian approach in matters concerning welfare of the poor.

The Minister directed completion of previously unfinished double-bedroom housing units constructed by the previous government, along with provision of basic amenities such as drinking water, electricity, and drainage, and immediate allotment to beneficiaries regardless of construction stage.

Nizamabad in-charge Minister Seethakka, Adilabad in-charge Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, Minister G. Vivek, Government Advisors P. Sudarshan Reddy, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Mohammad Shabbir Ali, MPs, MLCs, MLAs of the concerned districts, Revenue Secretary D.S. Lokesh Kumar, Housing Secretary V.P. Gautam, and other officials were present in the meeting.
