
Hyderabad, May 10 (RAHNUMA): The ‘NTR Trust Thalassemia Run,’ organized under the aegis of the NTR Memorial Trust for children suffering from Thalassemia disease was held with great fanfare on Necklace Road in the city today . A large number of youth and members of the public participated in the 3K, 5K, and 10K run categories, which commenced at Jalavihar. The Managing Trustee of the NTR Memorial Trust Nara Bhuvaneshwari attended the event as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhuvaneshwari emphasized the critical need to create awareness regarding Thalassemia. She noted that it was one of the dangerous diseases claiming the lives of children. She expressed deep anguish over the fact that the affected children were compelled to undergo painful medical treatments once every 15 days. She stated that approximately 12,000 children were born with Thalassemia in the country every year and added that currently, there were over 1.5 lakh Thalassemia patients nationwide.
She mentioned that in the Telugu states alone, approximately 7,500 people were suffering from this disease. She further explained that the primary objective of this run was to foster greater awareness about the Thalassemia within society. She announced that the Thalassemia centers and blood banks would soon be established in Vijayawada and Anantapur districts of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh state . She concluded by stating that the ultimate goal of the NTR Trust was to bring smiles on the faces of the children suffering from the Thalassemia.
Former Team India captain Mithali Raj, MLA Malla Reddy, Hyderabad CP Sajjanar, Hyderabad Collector Priyanka Ala, Cyberabad CP Ramesh, Bharat Biotech Joint Managing Director Suchitra Ella, film actress Manasa Varanasi and others participated in this event. Prominent figures from the film and political spheres, along with youth and the representatives of voluntary organizations also participated in the event in large numbers to express their support for the children suffering from the Thalassemia.
