Vivek directs officials to boost sand revenue, crack down on illegal mining

Hyderabad, June 6 (RAHNUMA): Minister for Labour, Employment, Mines and Geology Dr. G. Vivek Venkatswamy has directed officials to enhance revenue from sand resources while strengthening surveillance mechanisms to curb illegal sand mining and transportation across Telangana.

The Minister chaired a review meeting with officials of the Telangana State Mineral Development Corporation (TGMDC) at his chamber in the Secretariat on Saturday.

During the meeting, the Minister reviewed key issues related to sand mining operations, sand availability across the State, revenue trends and prospects, operational challenges, and measures required to improve the existing system.

Emphasising transparency in all operations, Vivek Venkatswamy instructed officials to ensure strict monitoring of sand transportation. He stressed the need for a robust surveillance system to track the movement of lorries and prevent illegal extraction and transportation of sand.

TGMDC director Anudeep Durishetty briefed the Minister on the initiatives being undertaken to increase revenue, strengthen monitoring systems, and tackle illegal mining activities. He also highlighted challenges being faced by the department in certain areas.

Officials further apprised the Minister of ongoing exploration activities for critical and other minerals across various districts of the State. Vivek Venkatswamy directed them to expedite the exploration process and submit detailed reports on key issues requiring immediate attention.

The Minister also reviewed the performance of Sand Bazaars, the department’s surveillance mechanisms, and staffing requirements. He instructed officials to further strengthen enforcement measures and improve operational efficiency to ensure effective management of the State’s mineral resources.
