Hyderabad, July 28 (RAHNUMA): The Telangana government has announced the institution of the prestigious Telangana State Television Awards (TGSTA) to celebrate and encourage excellence across the regional television industry.
The announcement was made by Minister for Roads & Buildings and Cinematography, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, following a comprehensive review meeting at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat on Tuesday.
During the session with members of the TGSTA Committee, the Minister finalised key framework elements, including award categories, logo design, title guidelines, and venue selection for the upcoming presentation ceremony.
“Television is a powerful medium with deep social impact, particularly among women and senior citizens,” Minister Venkat Reddy stated, underscoring the government’s commitment to promoting higher quality and impactful television content.
The high-level meeting was attended by MLC Shankar Naik, Telangana Film Development Corporation (TFDC) Managing Director Mukund Reddy, Director Kishore Babu, alongside the TGSTA Committee chairman and senior members.
Addressing the meeting, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said the government would extend special encouragement to creators producing serials, programmes, children’s films and socially relevant content that conveys positive messages.
The Minister said awards would be presented across a wide range of categories, including television non-fiction programmes, daily serials, children’s films, documentaries, films of social significance and educational films. Individual awards will also be presented to outstanding directors, actors, writers, music directors, cinematographers, anchors, dubbing artists, editors, art directors, costume designers, makeup artists and other technical and creative professionals, he said.
Komatireddy Venkat Reddy stated that non-fiction television programmes must have completed at least 13 episodes, while daily serials should have aired a minimum of 100 episodes to qualify. Children’s films, documentaries, educational films and socially relevant films should have a duration of 20 to 60 minutes. The Minister also suggested including separate award categories for male and female anchors and presenters from news channels.
He said only entries meeting these eligibility criteria would be considered for evaluation and stressed that the selection process should be completely transparent, as the committee comprises eminent experts from the television industry.
Komatireddy Venkat Reddy further said the committee had proposed associating the name of former Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao with television works that reflect Telangana’s language, history, culture, traditions and heritage.
He directed the committee to finalise proposals for the guidelines, logo and award titles at the earliest.
Komatireddy Venkat Reddy also asked TFDC Managing Director Mukund Reddy to identify and propose two or three alternative venues for the award ceremony. The Minister said the government would take a final decision on all aspects of the awards after consultations with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy
