Hyderabad, Aug.1 (RAHNUMA): Rajya Sabha MP Dr. K. Laxman on Saturday warned that the Telangana government would face strong opposition from employees and teachers if it failed to address their long-pending demands, drawing parallels with political changes witnessed in several other states.
Speaking at a “Maha Dharna” organised by the Telangana Region Teachers’ Union at Indira Park here, Dr. Laxman accused the Congress government of reneging on its election promise to restore the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) by scrapping the New Pension Scheme (NPS).
He demanded immediate implementation of a 51 percent fitment based on the Pay Revision Commission (PRC) report, release of six pending Dearness Allowance (DA) instalments, settlement of outstanding employee dues, and justice for employees affected by GO 317.
The protest was attended by BJP MLCs Malka Komaraiah, A.V.N. Reddy and Anji Reddy, along with BJP Legislature Party leader and MLA Aleti Maheshwar Reddy.
Addressing the gathering, Maheshwar Reddy alleged that the Congress government had failed to honour promises made to teachers before the Assembly elections. He assured that the BJP would continue to raise teachers’ issues both inside and outside the Legislature until their demands were met.
The BJP leaders maintained that the governments ignoring the concerns of employees and teachers eventually faced political consequences and pledged continued support to the ongoing agitation.
