Hyderabad, Sept.4 (RAHNUMA): The global packaging industry will mark the first-ever World Packaging Day on September 6, with the World Packaging Organisation (WPO) launching the annual observance to highlight packaging’s role in food security, healthcare, economic growth, safety and sustainability.
September 6, the anniversary of the WPO’s foundation, has been designated as World Packaging Day. Hyderabad-based packaging professional and WPO Global Ambassador Chakravarthi AVPS said the initiative aims to broaden public understanding of packaging beyond waste management and recognise its contribution to protecting food and medicines, reducing product losses, supporting trade and improving quality of life.
The inaugural campaign will focus on four themes – packaging for progress, packaging against food waste, packaging and economic growth, and packaging and sustainability.
The WPO has encouraged industry associations, manufacturers, educational institutions and other stakeholders worldwide to organise seminars, factory visits, competitions, student programmes and digital campaigns under the common World Packaging Day identity.
WPO President Luciana Pellegrino has emphasised the everyday importance of packaging, noting that it is present in virtually every aspect of daily life.
The observance will also provide India an opportunity to showcase its growing packaging ecosystem and innovations in sustainable materials, machinery, logistics and product protection, Chakravarthi said.
