Hyderabad, Sept.12 (RAHNUMA): Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy said the proposed Adilabad Airport would pave the way for improved regional connectivity and strengthen civil aviation infrastructure in North Telangana.
In a statement, Reddy said a review meeting on the project was held with Union Minister for Civil Aviation K. Rammohan Naidu in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. It was decided to appoint nodal officers from the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Telangana government within a week to take forward the project in “mission mode”.
He said the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and Master Plan for the proposed Joint-User Airfield (JUA) would be expedited.
Reddy said the project represented a crucial step towards fulfilling the long-standing aspiration of people in the erstwhile Adilabad district and North Telangana. He recalled that he had raised the need for an airport and an Air Force station in Adilabad with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, stressing the region’s strategic importance and the need to improve connectivity.
According to Reddy, the Defence Ministry had agreed to develop a Joint-User Airfield in Adilabad and assured full cooperation. Several meetings were subsequently held involving the Defence and Civil Aviation ministries and Telangana government officials.
Officials from the Defence and Civil Aviation sectors inspected the proposed airport site on April 17, 2026. The inspection concluded that a 2.75 kilometer runway would be required.
The Telangana government has also been asked to acquire an additional 1,500 acres of land, in addition to the 369.45 acres already held by the Indian Air Force.
The proposed facilities include infrastructure for trainer aircraft, parking for visiting aircraft, weather shelters, aircraft hangars, an operational complex, training facilities and maintenance infrastructure.
Reddy said the project would be of immense benefit to the people of Telangana, particularly those living in the northern districts, and expressed satisfaction that years of meetings, correspondence and coordination had brought the Adilabad airport proposal to a decisive stage.
