Rahnuma:Binance halts deposits, withdrawals after security breach; impact estimated at $6.3 billion New Delhi, Oct 30 (IANS) Binance on Friday said it has suspended deposits and withdrawals as it investigates a security incident with an estimated impact of around $6.3 billion. In a statement, the world’s largest crypto exchange said its initial investigation suggests the incident may involve a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop which allowed an attacker to gain access to a service container and submit unauthorised withdrawal transactions. “We have found no evidence of any wallet private key leak.

We will share a detailed technical post-mortem once the investigation is complete and the facts are fully verified,” Binance said. The exchange said it has worked with blockchain partners to freeze affected assets, with about $3 billion frozen on-chain so far. Binance will cover all losses from the SAFU fund and the company’s funds, while user funds are safe. “The estimated total impact sits at around $6.3B.

We have worked with blockchain partners to freeze affected assets, with about $3 billion frozen on-chain so far. The crypto exchange platform further said that it will publish an updated ‘Proof of Reserves’ once remediation is complete.” Binance said in a statement. “As an immediate precaution, temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals while security checks are completed,” it said. “Revoked the affected address authorisation and engaged law enforcement and blockchain intelligence partners to trace and recover funds,” the exchange added.

According to the exchange, their teams are working around the clock to resolve this issue safely and thoroughly. “We are working closely with our law enforcement partners to confirm the identity of these criminals and bring them to justice,” the exchange said. Additionally, Bitcoin slumped below $77,000 to its lowest level since September after the disclosure with other tokens also selling off amid fears the suspected hack may become the biggest crypto heist ever, surpassing the $1.5 billion Bybit hack in February 2025. –IANS ag/

Unreal innings from Glenn Phillips and a huge effort with the bat from the Blackcaps,” the New Zealand PM posted on X. Phillips (107 from 49 balls), arguably the batter of the series so far, smashed his third T20I century, while Bracewell also hit 65 from 25 balls to help New Zealand pile up their highest-ever T20I total and also the highest by any team against India in the format. This surpassed New Zealand’s previous highest score of 254/5, which they had smashed four years ago against Scotland, and is the most by any team against India, going past the previous 257/3 that England had hit in Southampton earlier this year. Phillips has been the batter of the series, having hit an 82 not out and 70 in the first two matches before his 107 in the fourth game. He was dismissed by Nitish in the final over when he miscued a lofted drive to Abhishek at deep extra covers, but the Kiwis have put up a record total against India as Nathan Smith finished with a four on the final ball. India have already sealed the five-match series comfortably after victories in the opening three games. In the third T20I, India openers Abhishek Sharma (113) and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (45) stitched together a powerplay display for the record books, piling on 118 runs in six overs as they chased down 199 runs off just 13.2 overs against New Zealand. This was the second-quickest chase of a 190-run target or more (with 40 deliveries remaining), second only to Estonia’s chase of 193 against Cyprus in 2024, which they completed with 42 deliveries to spare.
