BRS MLA accuses govt of endangering Telangana’s water security

Hyderabad, July 12 (RAHNUMA): BRS MLA and former minister G. Jagadish Reddy has denounced Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s criticisms of the Kaleshwaram project.
He accused the current Congress administration of engaging in a politically motivated agenda that jeopardizes Telangana’s water security. The BRS MLA emphasised that the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, conceived by former chief minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, represented a significant achievement for Telangana. However, he alleged that the Congress government is now seeking to tarnish the project’s reputation for political gain.
Speaking at Telangana Bhavan on Sunday, Jagadish Reddy highlighted the potential for a drinking water shortage in the state, exacerbated by the anticipated impact of a Super El Nino.
He claimed the government is disregarding the counsel of retired engineers who are acting in Telangana’s best interest. The BRS legislator further condemned the Chief Minister’s reported threats of action against these retired engineers and characterised the campaign against the Medigadda barrage as deceptive propaganda.
He strongly objected to Revanth Reddy’s alleged remarks about physically harming BRS leaders. The BRS MLA reiterated that Telangana’s statehood was secured through considerable sacrifices and affirmed the BRS leadership’s readiness to make any sacrifice necessary for the welfare of Telangana and its farming community.
Jagadish Reddy refuted claims that the Kaleshwaram project poses a threat to Bhadrachalam and extended a challenge to Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy for a public debate on the matter. He further asserted that using power costs as a justification for withholding water for irrigation constitutes a grave offense against farmers.
