BRS party’s Karimnagar bandh receives mixed response

Karimnagar, May 9 (RAHNUMA): The bandh call by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Karimnagar to protest against an attack by rival BJP activists on the local MLA’s camp office received a mixed response on Saturday . However, the BJP questioned what connection the people of Karimnagar has to the BRS-sponsored shutdown and warned that they would attempt to obstruct it. The ruling Congress party clarified that the clashes between the BJP and BRS were a purely internal matter between the two parties. Amidst these conflicting statements, tension has prevailed in Karimnagar. The police have been deployed in large numbers across the town and arrested political party activists at various locations. BRS party Local MLA Gangula Kamalakar has been placed under house arrest at his residence. As a precautionary measure, the BRS party cadres were arrested early in the morning and shifted to the police station.

The Police, who have been deployed outside Gangula Kamalakar’s residence since Saturday morning, arrested him and shifted him to the LMD Police Station later. Former Mayor Ravinder Singh, BRS party City President Challa Harishankar, and others were also arrested by the police.

Meanwhile, Choppadandi MLA Sunke Ravishankar, who had set out from Burugupalli in Gangadhara Mandal to participate in the Karimnagar Bandh, was intercepted by the police en route. He was taken into custody, escorted back to his residence in Burugupalli and was placed under house arrest. Several Business and trade associations in the city voluntarily observed the bandh. Commercial establishments in many parts of the city remain closed.
