Hyderabad, May 18 (RAHNUMA): The Supreme Court of India on Monday issued a stay on the felling of trees in the eco-sensitive zone surrounding KBR Park in Hyderabad. The subsequent hearing has been postponed to July 27.
It is widely known that the State government has initiated the construction of a flyover near KBR Park, but these activities are currently paused due to the Supreme Court’s stay order.
The GHMC has proposed an ambitious initiative aimed at addressing traffic congestion in the busy Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills neighbourhood of Hyderabad. This initiative, known as the ‘Grade Separator Corridor Project,’ is set to be developed around KBR Park. Officials have indicated that the project aims to promote a ‘Green Hyderabad’ by balancing environmental protection with urban growth.
They emphasised that the project is designed to ensure there is no negative impact on the KBR Park Eco-Sensitive Zone. Under a policy termed “Zero Park Intrusion,” the construction of flyovers and underpasses will be confined to the existing road medians, avoiding any encroachment on park land.
GHMC officials also reassured the public that no trees within KBR Park would be removed for this project, stating that only those situated in the central median would be safely relocated to other areas through a sophisticated transplantation technique. However, the bench, which included Justice BV Nagarathna and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, issued the interim directive.
