CM Revanth asserts Congress commitment to caste census

Hyderabad, Oct.30 (NSS)Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has affirmed the Congress government’s commitment to implementing a social, economic, and political caste survey as promised by their leader Rahul Gandhi.

Recalling Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s assurance to the people of Telangana at the September 17 public meeting in Tukkuguda, Revanth Reddy emphasised the Gandhi family’s history of honouring its commitments, despite political challenges.

“It’s our collective responsibility to fulfill Rahul Gandhi’s promise,” he said, underscoring that he, TPCC president Mahesh Goud, and all present are stewards of Congress’s legacy, not individual personalities.

Addressing the caste census meeting at Gandhi Bhavan here on Wednesday, Revanth Reddy clarified his role as a product of the Congress party, noting that he received his mandate through the trust of party leaders and the efforts of Congress cadres.

“There’s no room for debate on this, anyone creating discord is disloyal to the party,” he stated. Revanth Reddy also announced the appointment of Niranjan as Chairman of the BC Commission, chosen for his alignment with Congress’s values.

The Chief Minister stressed that while government officials are responsible for implementing policies, the Congress cadre and leadership must maintain close coordination to ensure the success of the caste census.

He suggested assigning 33 observers across districts to monitor the process.

“The Telangana model should be a national example, helping realise Rahul Gandhi’s vision for India,” he remarked, setting November 30 as the target date for census completion.

The Chief Minister further outlined plans to share Telangana’s caste census as a “model document” with the central government to potentially shape future national census methodologies.

He also addressed opposition attempts to obstruct key initiatives, including the recent recruitment drives. Despite resistance, the government issued over 50,000 job appointment letters within ten months, he said, with a fair representation of backward and weaker sections, including 57.11% BC, 15.38% SC, 8.87% ST, and 8.84% EWS candidates, alongside selections under the sports quota, the Chief Minister said.

He also reiterated that the Congress remains steadfast in promoting social justice and would not tolerate internal disruptions.
