Agartala, Aug 24 (IANS) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday said that the state government has taken several steps to strengthen the health infrastructure in the tribal-inhabited Dhalai district and asserted that the government’s promise to establish a medical college in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) area is now being fulfilled.
The Chief Minister said that his government had promised to set up a medical college in the TTAADC areas and that promise is now being fulfilled.
Laying the foundation stone of the private Medical College at Lalchhari in Ambassa in northern Tripura’s Dhalai district headquarters, the Chief Minister said that the state government has already taken several initiatives for the development of Dhalai District Hospital and is working towards further strengthening healthcare facilities in the district.
He also participated in the Bhoomi Puja ceremony for the proposed medical college. “The state government is also running the state in the same direction as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is running the country. The officials in the state are working on the path shown by the Prime Minister,” he said.
Saha, who also holds the Health and Family Welfare portfolio, said that the state government was making efforts to ensure that development and infrastructure were not concentrated only in the capital city Agartala. “In addition to setting up a medical college in Ambassa, an Ayurvedic college is being established at Tepania in Southern Tripura’s Udaipur. If this medical college is established in Ambassa, the surrounding conditions and socio-economic conditions of the area will improve significantly,” he said.
He said the medical college would also create substantial employment opportunities in the area. “Employment opportunities will be created for around 5,000 people directly and indirectly. The head of the college has also said that initiatives will be taken to establish a paramedical college here in the future,” Saha said.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the development of health infrastructure across the state and said that the government has taken a decision to establish a health university by bringing the state’s health institutions under one umbrella.
Referring to the recent business conclave organised in Agartala, Saha said around 1,200 industrialists from Tripura and other parts of the country participated in the event.
“Many of them have expressed interest in investing in the industrial sector in the state. Tripura is now ranked second among the northeastern states in terms of GSDP as well as per capita income. NITI Aayog has declared Tripura a front-runner state. This has been possible due to the successful implementation of the development-oriented agenda of the state government,” he said.
Saha urged the local people to extend all necessary cooperation and assistance for the construction of the medical college.
The foundation stone-laying and Bhoomi Puja ceremony was attended by Dhalai Zila Parishad Sabhadhipati Sushmita Das, MLAs Manoj Kanti Deb, Shambhu Lal Chakma, Swapna Das Pal and Chittaranjan Debbarma, Health Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, Dhalai District Magistrate Vivek HB, Bandhan Group Chairman Chandrashekhar Ghosh and HP Memorial Foundation Director Neelima Ghosh.
