Congress Eyes Retention Of Mlc Seats

Hyderabad, Nov.28 (NSS): The Congress party is exploring all options to regain all the MLC seats that will soon fall vacant in Telangana.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Mahesh Kumar Goud on Thursday held a key meeting with party leaders at Gandhi Bhavan here on Thursday and discussed strategies for

the upcoming MLC elections. The meeting witnessed the participation of senior leaders, Ministers, and district-level functionaries.

The tenure of three MLCs—T. Jeevan Reddy (Graduate MLC from Medak, Nizamabad, Adilabad, and Karimnagar districts), Kura Raghothama Reddy (Teacher MLC from the same districts), and Alugubelli Narsi Reddy (Teacher MLC from Warangal, Khammam, and Nalgonda districts)—is set to end on March 29, 2025.

The Election Commission will release the final voter list for these elections on December 30, 2024, and the process for electing new members is expected to conclude by March.

In preparation for the Graduate MLC elections in Medak, Nizamabad, Adilabad, and Karimnagar districts—currently held by Congress, the TPCC chief held discussions with Ministers, MLAs, and DCC presidents.

Key leaders such as AICC Telangana in-charge Deepa Das Munshi, Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Sridhar Babu and Konda Surekha participated in the deliberations.

The meeting focused on candidate selection and election strategies. Several hopefuls, including Velijala Rajender, educational entrepreneur Narender and KK Mahender Reddy, have shown interest in contesting the seat. However, speculation is rife over whether sitting MLC T. Jeevan Reddy will be renominated.

In addition to the Graduate MLC seat, discussions also revolved around the upcoming local body elections and other vacant MLC positions that will open in March. The Congress aims to retain its sitting seats, employing strategies similar to those used in the successful election of the Warangal, Khammam, and Nalgonda Graduate MLCs.

The meeting highlighted the party’s focus on consolidating its organisational structure and preparing robust election strategies to strengthen its presence in Telangana ahead of critical polls. The leaders also discussed the proposal of nominated posts and other organisational matters.
