Dubai Police fine more than 1,200 drivers for parking in disabled spots since January

DUBAI // More than 1,200 drivers have been fined for leaving their vehicles in disabled parking spaces since the start of this year, Dubai Police has said.The General Department of Traffic said 1,277 motorists were hit with Dh1,000 and four black points on their licence in January and February. In 2016, a total of 8,705 offences were recorded.Police also warned motorists against parking in front of fire hydrants and ambulances spaces.Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, director of the traffic department, said offenders would also have their cars immediately impounded. Ahmed Bahrozyan, chief executive of the Licensing Agency at Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, said in case of a repeated offence, the car will be clamped or impounded, as people should show respect to the disabled.Permits for disabled drivers are placed on the windscreen of vehicles. They are also granted to vehicles and buses that transport disabled people and can be used across Dubai.newsdesk@thenational.ae
