Hyderabad, Sept.8 (NSS): Former minister Harish Rao along with MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra, MLA Chinta Prabhakar and MLC Deshapati Srinivas today said “The betrayal of farmers by the government is nothing short of heartbreaking. In just nine months, the Congress government has become a noose around the neck of the farming community. Recently, a farmer, Surender Reddy, unable to bear the pressure, tragically committed suicide after leaving a letter at the Agriculture Department office in Medchal.
He had loans with APGVB Bank – ₹1.15 lakh for his mother and ₹1.92 lakh for himself. Shockingly, the bank manager, Anirudh, told his family that only one member would be eligible for loan waiver. Unable to cope, Surender Reddy took the tragic step”, he said and added that every word in Surender Reddy’s suicide note exposes the real face of Revanth Reddy. Revanth’s words change faster than day turns to night. In the Assembly, he claimed there was no link between ration cards and loan waivers, but Surender’s death proves the connection beyond doubt. His suicide note serves as a post mortem report on Revanth’s administration”.
Revanth Reddy’s policies have ignited conflict within families, dividing them with his unjust loan waiver restrictions. While KCR’s government strengthened family bonds, Revanth’s government has torn them apart. Take the staggering example of Gurajala Ball Reddy and his two sons in Jakkapur village, Siddipet constituency. The family has a ₹6 lakh loan, but only ₹2 lakh are being waived. These are not isolated incidents – this is Revanth’s betrayal of farmers. Revanth’s government is hiding behind 31 excuses to avoid fulfilling the loan waiver promise.
For example, in Narayanraopet village, Siddipet district, Nalla Manemma, a farmer, has a loan of ₹1 lakh. Her husband passed away in 2010, but bank officials are now asking for his Aadhaar card to process the loan waiver. How can someone provide an Aadhaar card when the person passed away in 2010, before Aadhaar even existed? In another case, Kumbala Siddha Reddy and Chatla Harish, two unmarried farmers, are being asked to provide their wives’ Aadhaar cards. How can they provide something that doesn’t exist? Are they supposed to get married just to have their loans waived?
These are just a few examples. Revanth’s government has only managed to waive loans for 20 lakh farmers, but 21 lakh farmers are still waiting. Is this not betrayal? Who will now jump into the well as Revanth once boasted?
The Congress government is the most miserly and cut-throat government Telangana has ever seen. They made grand promises during the elections, but now, all that remains are cuts and betrayals.
“Surender Reddy’s death was not a suicide; it was a murder committed by the Congress government. Why should farmers who owe more than ₹2 lakhs still have to repay the balance? What kind of link is this between a swollen knee and the heart? Were such conditions ever imposed under KCR’s administration? New positions in the agricultural sector are being created left and right, but what’s the point if the government isn’t waiving farmer loans? Are these positions meant to increase the number of farmer suicides?
So far, a heartbreaking 470 farmers have taken their own lives. The so-called ‘Rythu Bharosa’ scheme has turned into a mirage. Does this government even understand the meaning of financial support for farmers? Under KCR’s leadership, farmers received support through ‘Rythu Bandhu’ in 11 phases. The Yasangi crop season is fast approaching. Where is the financial support now? Why is the bonus for paddy becoming a bogus promise? the smallest, weakest farmers are not seeing any benefit, while the rest are left out. Revanth must apologize to the farmers for failing to keep his promise of a loan waiver by August 15. Farmers should not resort to suicide – BRS is here to fight for them.
“BRS has always fought for Telangana, and we will continue to fight for our farmers. We demand that the Congress government immediately fulfill its promise of waiving all farmer loans, resolve pending cases, and provide a formal explanation to the people of Telangana for their failure. We will present the grievances we have received regarding loan waivers to the Governor. So far, we have received 1.32 lakh complaints. When I talked about the law-and-order situation in the state, was I not speaking the truth? Police officers should not bow to political pressure. Under KCR’s government, we allocated funds for stationery expenses every month for police stations. Now, that’s not happening. Why isn’t the police officers’ association speaking up about this?”
“In the old Medak district, why aren’t police officers getting their leave encashments? Why doesn’t the police officers’ association raise this issue? I don’t have any personal anger against the association, but isn’t it true that communal tensions have risen under Revanth’s rule? In these nine months, 247 illegal weapon cases have been registered. Is this not a fact?”
