HRC SEEKS REPORT ON CONDITIONS IN BC WELFARE GURUKUL INSTITUTIONS

Hyderabad, July 18 (RAHNUMA): The State Human Rights Commission (HRC) has sought a detailed report from the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Telangana Backward Classes Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (MJPTBCWREIS) over allegations concerning the welfare and safety of students in its residential institutions.

The Commission initiated proceedings after a complaint filed by National BC Dal president and advocate Dundra Kumaraswamy. The commission issued notice to the Society’s Secretary, directing submission of a comprehensive report by September 18 this year, when the case will be taken up for further hearing.

The complaint raises concerns over student safety, food quality, healthcare and infrastructure in BC welfare residential educational institutions. The Commission warned that failure to submit the report within the stipulated time could invite appropriate legal action.

The intervention signals the Commission’s intent to examine whether adequate welfare and human rights standards are being maintained in residential institutions catering to backward class students.
