Hyderabad emerging as global hub for advanced engineering: Sridhar Babu

Hyderabad, April 16 (RAHNUMA): Minister for IT and Industries D. Sridhar Babu announced that leading U.S.-based digital manufacturing company Protolabs will establish its Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad as part of its India expansion, further reinforcing Telangana’s position as a premier destination for global technology and engineering investments.

A delegation of Protolabs met Sridhar Babu at the Secretariat on Thursday and held detailed discussions regarding the company’s India entry strategy and plans for setting up its Hyderabad GCC.

The Protolabs delegation included Chief Financial Officer Dan Schumacher, Chief Human Resources Officer Agnes Semington, Chief Technology and AI Officer Marc Kermisch, and India Managing Director Ashish Sharma.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said Hyderabad has rapidly emerged as one of the world’s most preferred destinations for next-generation Global Capability Centres, driven by its strong engineering talent pool, robust digital ecosystem, progressive industrial policies, and expanding manufacturing base.

“We are pleased to welcome Protolabs to Hyderabad and to India. Telangana has created a future-ready ecosystem that supports the seamless integration of design, engineering, prototyping, and manufacturing. Hyderabad offers the ideal platform for global enterprises looking to build innovation-driven capability centres,” he said.

Sridhar Babu stated that Protolabs plans to commence operations this month and scale up its Hyderabad GCC to 200–300 employees in the near term, with a strong emphasis on recruiting engineering talent.

He stated that the proposed centre will focus on advanced engineering, digital manufacturing technologies, and product development, strengthening Hyderabad’s growing footprint in high-value manufacturing and next-generation industrial technologies.

“This investment will significantly enhance Hyderabad’s capabilities in advanced engineering and digital manufacturing, while further cementing the city’s reputation as a national hub for innovation-led growth,” the Minister added.

He noted that Protolabs’ entry into Hyderabad will provide a major boost to the local innovation ecosystem by expanding expertise in rapid prototyping and low-volume manufacturing—critical segments that enable startups, MSMEs, and enterprises to accelerate product development and reduce time-to-market.

“Hyderabad is steadily transforming into a city where software, engineering, and manufacturing converge. Investments such as this will generate high-quality employment and accelerate Telangana’s transition toward product-led and innovation-driven economic growth,” he said.

Sridhar Babu said the proposed GCC aligns with Telangana government’s strategic vision of attracting cutting-edge investments in deep tech, advanced engineering, and innovation-led industries.

“Telangana remains committed to creating an industry-friendly environment and forging strategic partnerships that generate employment, foster innovation, and drive long-term economic growth,” he said. IT advisor Saikrishna also participated in the meeting.
