In a shocking incident, a private school in Hyderabad’s Hayathnagar area allegedly locked up as many as 19 students in a room for over an hour.
The school took the decision, after the students failed to pay the school fees.
The incident took place on Saturday, when authorities of Saritha Vidhya Niketan locked up the students, and also did not allow them to take the SSC exam.
“One of the parents, Anugu Jangareddy, approached the police. He stated that the school management confined the students for one hour saying that they will be allowed to appear for the exam, only after full payment of the fees” J Narender Goud, Inspector, Hayathnagar Police Station, told TNM.
It was reported that the school had hiked its fees last month.
“We do have dues, but my wife already met the principal and assured the payment by April. She had also requested them to allow our children to sit for the exam. The school management should have called parents if there was an issue. This is no way to treat kids,” one of the parents told Times of India.
A case has been registered under section 342 and section 75 of Juvenile Justice Act against the school management, the police said.
“The detained students failed to pay the fees for this month and for this they were locked up in a room and not allowed to write exams. It is a serious violation of their rights and action must be taken against the school,” said Achyutha Rao, a child right activist told The New Indian Express.
