Jordanian authorities thwart banned Muslim Brotherhood meeting in Aqaba

LONDON(RAHNUMA): Jordanian authorities on Sunday prevented an illegal meeting conducted by the banned Muslim Brotherhood group in the southern city of Aqaba.

The Ministry of Interior confirmed the arrest of several participants involved in the meeting organized under the direction of individuals holding senior positions within the Muslim Brotherhood, according to the Petra news agency.

Authorities emphasized that the group is prohibited and that engaging in any activities under its auspices is a violation of the law, highlighting that all involved will face legal consequences. It affirmed that political engagement is allowed only through legally established and licensed political parties, according to the Petra.

In April last year, Jordan formally declared the group dissolved and illegal as part of the government’s measures to safeguard national security and public stability.

The move followed the arrest of 16 individuals connected to the Muslim Brotherhood, who were accused of planning to target sensitive sites and storing weapons and explosives in residential neighborhoods.
