KTR condemns police action against journalists

Hyderabad, July 10 (NSS)Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao today strongly condemned the police action against journalists in the State. “Are journalists also not protected in public administration?” he asked and said the illegal arrest of a Zee News reporter and cameraman, who were covering the agitation by DSC candidates in the OU as part of their duty, was outrageous. “Is it a crime for journalists to go for news coverage? Is it wrong for the unemployed to protest over the DSC issue,” he asked.

He alleged that the women journalists were misbehaved at Yellamma temple in Balkampet on Tuesday and added that the Z News reporter was arrested at Osmania University on Wednesday. KTR questioned whether Indiramma’s kingdom meant an excessive behaviour on the journalists. He demanded to know as to why there was so much detention in Osmania University?

KTR claimed that ever since the Congress came to power, there had been scenes of separate Telangana movement in Osmania University again. “Once again, the sounds of police boots, barbed wire fences are seen on the OU campus. The students are sure to convince the State government with another agitation,” he added.

KTR demanded immediate and unconditional release of the journalist and cameramen who were illegally arrested by the police. He made it clear that in a democracy, there was no question of eroding the freedom of the press. He said the BRS party stands in support of the struggle of the journalists’ unions to protest against the police treatment meted out to the journalists. (NSS)
