Hyderabad, Aug.9 (NSS): BRS party working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) has criticized the State government for spreading false propaganda on the Sunkishala project. He said it was the BRS government that revived the project. He recalled that the Sunkishala project was started for Hyderabad’s water needs, but it was strongly opposed by the people of Nalgonda.
Speaking to mediapersons along with former ministers Sabitha Indra Reddy and Mahmood Ali at Telangana Bhavan, he said though there was dead storage in Nagarjuna Sagar, the project had been taken up so that Hyderabad did not face any water crisis. He said the Sunkishala project would be useful for irrigation and drinking water needs in Hyderabad and surrounding villages.
“Even if the Krishna River does not get water for four years, there will be no problems with the project,” he said. Stating that people in Delhi, Bengaluru and Chennai are struggling for water, there was no need to struggle for water in Hyderabad. He also said during his tenure, plans were made to provide the water for 50 years to Hyderabad to meet the drinking water needs. He questioned as to why State government had trampled on the Sunkishala incident. “If the incident took place at 6 am on August 2, did the government not have information or did it cover up the matter,” he asked. He said it’s a shame for the government if it was not aware of the incident. The accident occurred due to the hasty installation of the gates to expedite the work, he said and added that the wall collapsed due to lack of maintenance by the State government. He demanded that the agency carrying out the works be blacklisted and added that a judicial inquiry should be conducted into the incident.
“CM Revanth, who kept the municipal portfolio with him, should be held responsible for the incident. We have not hidden the Medigadda incident even though there are elections,” he said. He claimed that crores of rupees of wealth of the people of the State had been submerged in water. He said his government had given top priority to irrigation and drinking water and added that SLBC tunnel works had also been done at a fast pace. He alleged that the Sunkishala accident was a failure of the Congress government. He said the law and order situation in Hyderabad was not good.
