Maha CM announces relocation of high-frequency radar centres

Mumbai, Dec 13 (IANS) Chief Minister Devendr Fadnavis, on Saturday, ahead of the ensuing Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections, announced relocation of high-frequency radar centres located at Dahisar and Juhu to enable the redevelopment of buildings in these areas.

“There are High-Frequency Radar Centres located at Dahisar and Juhu. Redevelopment of buildings in the areas surrounding these radar centres is currently impossible due to height restrictions imposed by the centres. To resolve this, the government has decided to relocate these High-Frequency Radar Centres to other technically suitable locations,” he said.

CM Fadnavis stated that the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India, and the Airport Authority of India (AAI) have agreed to relocate the Dahisar radar to Gorai.

“The Government of Maharashtra has expressed its readiness to bear the cost of this relocation and provide the alternate land to the Government of India. The land in Gorai will be transferred to the Government of India free of cost. In return, the AAI will utilise 60% of its land in Dahisar for a public garden,” he added.

“Maharashtra government has suggested an alternate site for the Juhu radar to the technical team of the Airport Authority of India (AAI). The AAI technical team has been invited to inspect this site. A high-level technical committee has been formed by the Government of Maharashtra and the AAI to study the technical feasibility of relocating the high-frequency radar centre at Juhu. Once this technical study is completed and the alternate location is selected, the process for approving the relocation of the Juhu High-Frequency Radar Centre will commence, easing the redevelopment of buildings in the Dahisar and Juhu (D.N. Nagar) areas,” said the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister reiterated that the relocation of these radar centres will open the way for the redevelopment and reconstruction of buildings in the Dahisar and Juhu (D.N. Nagar) areas.

CM’s statement comes especially on days after the deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde, with an eye on BMC elections, announced in the state assembly made pagadi free through a separate set of rules for the proper and fair redevelopment of old buildings under the Pagadi system (a form of tenancy), which is claimed to benefit over 19,000 such buildings.

Further, he announced to grant “amnesty” to buildings without an Occupancy Certificate (OC), redevelop chawls on mill lands and housing for police. There are reportedly 20,000 OC-less buildings in Mumbai.

Manipur govt agrees to pay ex-gratia to kin of 32 Kuki-Zo civilians killed in violence: Key Kuki body Imphal, Oct 31 (IANS) The Manipur government has agreed to provide ex-gratia compensation to the next of kin of 32 Kuki-Zo civilians killed in violence attributed to the NSCN-IM and ZUF-K, the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC), the apex body of the Kuki-Zo tribal community in the state, said on Saturday. A senior KZC leader said that an ex gratia amount of Rs 10 lakh is expected to be provided to each of the bereaved families. According to a KZC statement, a meeting between the council’s leaders and government representatives was held at the District Magistrate’s office in Churachandpur on Friday to discuss the concerns and demands raised by the council. “During the meeting, KZC presented its concerns regarding the prevailing situation and the grievances of the Kuki-Zo people. Following extensive deliberations, the government agreed to provide ex-gratia compensation to the next of kin of 32 Kuki-Zo civilians who lost their lives in violence attributed to NSCN-IM and ZUF-K,” the statement said. The council said the decision reflects the need to honour the memory of the deceased and extend support to their bereaved families. The government also agreed to take responsibility for transporting the bodies of all the deceased to their respective villages for the final rites, the KZC said. According to the council, eight bodies of Kuki-Zo victims are currently lying in the morgue of Churachandpur District Hospital for a prolonged period, while some others have already been buried due to unavoidable circumstances. Both arrangements — payment of compensation and transportation of the bodies — are expected to be completed within seven days, the statement said. The KZC also raised several other pressing issues and demands concerning the security, welfare and political aspirations of the Kuki-Zo people. The government has taken these matters under consideration and assured the council that they would be reviewed and responded to in due course, the statement said. While describing the commitments on ex-gratia compensation and transportation of the deceased as steps towards addressing the immediate concerns of the bereaved families, the KZC emphasised that the broader grievances and legitimate political aspirations of the Kuki-Zo people require concrete and time-bound action. The council said it would continue to pursue these matters with the government until meaningful outcomes are achieved. Meanwhile, Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen on Saturday urged the authorities concerned to make every possible effort to trace and rescue two Kuki youths who went missing from Kangpokpi district on the evening of October 28. In a statement, Kipgen condemned the alleged abduction of the two youths from the vicinity of Taphou Kuki village on Wednesday evening. The two men, identified as Tinginlun Chongloi, 21, and Paoginlal Hangshing, 20, were allegedly abducted by unidentified miscreants, she said. “It is deeply distressing that young lives are being put at risk in this manner. I urge the authorities concerned to make every possible effort to trace their whereabouts and secure their safe and unconditional release at the earliest. Those responsible must be identified and brought to justice,” she said. Meanwhile, a 48-hour shutdown called by the Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU) in Kangpokpi district in protest against the reported abduction of the two youths affected vehicular movement along the Imphal-Dimapur National Highway (NH-2). The shutdown began at 5 p.m. on Thursday. Shops, markets and other business establishments also remained closed during the protest. COTU alleged that the two Kuki youths had been abducted by “Naga militants”. –IANS sc/vd
Rs 500 crore crypto fraud: ED conducts raids in Chandigarh, Mohali, Zirakpur, seizes Rs 72 lakh Shimla, Oct 31 (IANS) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted search operations at various locations across Chandigarh, Mohali and Zirakpur in connection with a Rs 500 crore cryptocurrency fraud involving Korvio Coin (KRO) and seized property documents and Rs 72 lakh in cash, an official said on Saturday. The searches were conducted by ED’s Shimla Sub-Zonal Office on October 28 under Section 17(1) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, the official said in a statement. During the search operation, various incriminating documents, including property-related documents, multiple digital devices and records pertaining to bank accounts, along with cash amounting to Rs 72 lakh, were seized. The investigation revealed that Atul Sood, a close aide of Subhash Sharma, the alleged mastermind behind the fraudulent cryptocurrency scheme that caused losses amounting to crores of rupees to investors, had travelled to Dubai to meet Subhash Sharma and was involved in arranging conferences and other events for him. These activities were carried out even after the registration of FIRs in connection with the fraudulent scheme, the ED said. During the ED’s search operation, Atul Sood was arrested and produced before the Special PMLA Court in Shimla on October 29, which granted his custody till November 5. Earlier, the ED had conducted search operations on December 13, 2025, and June 15, 2026, at the premises of various individuals associated with the fictitious cryptocurrency scheme, resulting in the seizure of incriminating documents and digital devices along with movable assets valued at Rs 1.5 crore. In connection with the case, various associates of Subash Sharma namely Hem Raj, Sukhdev Thakur, Abhishek Sharma, Milan Garg and Masoom Juneja were arrested. The charge sheet, along with the supplementary charge sheet, against them has been filed before the Special Court in Shimla, the ED added. The ED investigation was initiated on the basis of FIRs registered by the Himachal Pradesh and Punjab Police against Subhash Sharma and others. “The investigation revealed that Subhash Sharma, in connivance with his associates, including Hem Raj, Sukhdev Thakur, Abhishek Sharma and others, operated a cryptocurrency-based multi-level marketing (MLM) scheme through an online platform, inducing investors to invest in Korvio Coin (KRO) by promising assured high returns,” the ED said. The scheme functioned on a Ponzi model, wherein funds received from new investors were used to pay earlier investors. Recovered digital data indicated that more than 2.48 lakh users were affected by the fraud, involving transactions exceeding $219 million and estimated investor losses of around Rs 500 crore. “Investigation has revealed that the funds collected from new investors were predominantly received in cash and delivered to the leaders of the respective teams, from where they were ultimately routed to Subhash Sharma and his aides, including Vijay Kumar Juneja and Masoom Juneja,” the ED said. “It was also revealed that a portion of the funds collected from investors was allegedly utilised for acquiring immovable properties, with substantial consideration being paid in cash and registered values being significantly lower than the actual consideration,” the ED added. A smaller portion of the funds received from new investors was routed through multiple bank accounts, fictitious firms and intermediaries and were partly converted into cryptocurrency to conceal their origin and movement, the statement said. Subhash Sharma, the mastermind behind the fictitious cryptocurrency scam, fled to Dubai after duping thousands of investors, leaving them to suffer substantial financial losses. The ED has already initiated legal proceedings against him before the competent authorities in connection with the said case. –IANS rch/khz

Total collapse of law and order under TDP-led Andhra govt: Jagan on school chainsaw attack Anantapur, Oct 31 (IANS) YSR Congress Party President and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Saturday condemned the brutal attack on a Class 10 student inside a classroom in Andhra Pradesh’s Raptadu, calling it a “total collapse of law and order” under the TDP-led state government. A Class 10 girl student is undergoing emergency medical treatment after being brutally attacked with a chainsaw inside her school premises in Raptadu, leaving her with severe injuries to her face, head, and throat, officials said. The girl sustained deep wounds to her neck and abdomen, while her right hand was reportedly almost severed in the assault. Another girl student, who attempted to intervene and save her, was also seriously injured during the attack. Both victims are currently battling for their lives at a private hospital. Taking to X, Reddy said: “The barbaric chainsaw attack on a Class 10 student inside the classroom at Rapthadu ZP High School exposes the total collapse of law and order under the TDP coalition’s ‘Jungle Raj’.” “How could an assailant freely storm into a government school and brutally assault a young girl? This shows the government’s utter negligence in ensuring the safety of children, even inside educational institutions,” he said. The former Chief Minister also said that it is “unfortunate” that another student was also injured while she was trying to intervene. “When governance takes a backseat to political vendetta and ‘Red Book’ rule, criminals run rampant without fear of the law,” he said. “Injured students must be provided with the best emergency medical treatment immediately, and their families must be taken into confidence. We demand the immediate arrest of the attacker and be brought to justice through a transparent probe. An urgent review of school safety protocols across Andhra Pradesh, and complete accountability from Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and TDP National Working President Nara Lokesh,” Reddy added. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister expressed shock over the incident and spoke to officials to enquire about her condition and the treatment being provided. Personally monitoring her recovery, CM Naidu directed the medical team to accord her the highest priority and provide the best possible care. “I have ordered the police to hunt down the monster responsible and deliver the harshest legal punishment swiftly,” he added. Later, CM Naidu spoke to the student’s mother over the phone and offered her words of comfort and reassurance. He urged her to remain courageous and assured her that the accused would be punished severely, according to the Chief Minister’s Office. The Chief Minister assured the family that the government would extend complete support and that every possible effort would be made to save the student’s life. He also enquired about the health condition of another student who was also injured in the attack. Nara Lokesh also condemned the incident. Meanwhile, police have launched an extensive investigation into the incident and are yet to determine whether the accused man was known to the girl before the attack. Investigators are examining multiple aspects of the case as efforts continue to identify and apprehend the attacker. –IANS sd/vd

KGMU conversion case: STF report names professors, staff; UP govt directs action Lucknow, Oct 31 (IANS) The investigation into allegations of religious conversion and harassment of female doctors at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow has widened, with several professors, doctors, and other employees of the institution coming under the scanner following a Special Task Force (STF) report. The STF investigation report has raised serious questions about the conduct and alleged involvement of several faculty members and employees, with some professors also found culpable. The report details allegations of pressuring individuals to convert their religion, blackmailing female doctors, subjecting complainants to mental harassment, and attempting to suppress complaints against the accused. Following the findings, the state government has directed the university administration to initiate action against the individuals identified in the report. The KGMU Executive Council will constitute a six-member inquiry committee to examine the matter. The proposed panel will include a Vice-Chancellor, the Registrar, one teacher belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC) category, one teacher from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category, and two members nominated by the Executive Council. The STF probe has reportedly identified alleged links and incidents involving doctors and employees from several departments of the university. The report contains detailed accounts of complaints and alleged misconduct connected with the Departments of Pathology, Radiology and Microbiology, besides the Gandhi Ward. In the Pathology Department, the STF has questioned the role of certain senior faculty members, including Head of Department Professor Suresh Babu and Additional Professor Dr Sumaira Qayyum. The report alleges that they suppressed complaints submitted by affected doctors, extended support to the accused, and subjected the complainants to mental harassment instead of ensuring appropriate action. The investigation was based on two FIRs registered at different police stations in Lucknow. The first FIR was lodged at the Chowk police station on December 23, 2025, against Dr Rameez Malik following a complaint by Dr Dewarti Mitra, a resident doctor in the Pathology Department. The second FIR was registered at the Kaiserbagh police station on December 29, 2025, against resident doctor Mohammad Adil. The case was filed on the basis of a complaint submitted by Maviya, a member of the nursing staff. KGMU spokesperson K.K. Singh, speaking to IANS, said the university had taken action in connection with the cases and had itself brought certain other incidents to light. “There were two cases that came up, one involving Rameez and the other involving a nursing staff member and an impersonator. In Rameez’s case, there was a slight delay of a day or two initially. However, we ourselves uncovered the other two cases. The university exposed them, and action was taken against those involved on our initiative,” Singh said. The STF report also contains allegations against Dr Sajeen, who is accused of establishing romantic relationships with several female doctors and subsequently pressuring them to undergo religious conversion. Apart from Dr Dewarti Mitra, the report also refers to Dr Mansi Saxena, Dr Kritika Pandey and Dr Muskan in connection with the allegations. According to the report, Dr Sajeen was arrested on January 9 this year. Another case highlighted in the investigation concerns Jyoti Rao, a contractual employee in KGMU’s Department of Microbiology. The report alleges that she had filed a complaint against another employee, Shafat Ali Khan, accusing him of molestation, stalking, and attempting to pressure her into religious conversion. However, despite the complaint, no action was allegedly taken against Khan. Instead, Jyoti Rao’s contractual services were terminated. The investigation has also raised allegations against Dr Rizwan, a resident doctor in the Department of Radiology. He is accused of blackmailing female doctors and pressuring them to convert their religion. The STF report further claims that when the affected women attempted to raise complaints, they were threatened with adverse consequences, including being failed in their examinations and having their professional careers ruined. Several allegations involving nursing personnel posted in the Gandhi Ward have also been mentioned in the report. A nursing staff member identified as Nafees has been accused of developing a romantic relationship with Jyoti Singh and subsequently pressuring her to convert her religion and enter into a marriage through nikah. Similarly, another employee, Furkan, has been accused of pressuring Jagriti Gupta to embrace a different religion and marry him through nikah. These allegations have also been included in the broader investigation into the alleged activities of certain employees within the university. The STF report has also questioned the conduct of several other officials and faculty members at KGMU. Those mentioned include S.S. Abbas, Private Secretary to the Vice-Chancellor, former Head of Department Dr Abbas Ali Mehdi, Professor Usman Kausar and certain faculty members from the Department of Biochemistry. According to the report, these individuals are suspected of shielding particular doctors and employees facing allegations and allegedly influencing decisions relating to departmental matters. Their roles have also come under scrutiny as part of the investigation into the handling of complaints within the university. The investigating agency has also referred to a group known as ‘Islamic Medicos’ in its findings. The STF claims that a network involving certain former and current medical students associated with SMSCI Agra and KGMU was allegedly active. The report also mentions the names of some doctors and their alleged interactions with one another in connection with the matter. The STF has recommended departmental inquiries against colleagues and employees allegedly associated with Dr Sajeen. It has also referred to the findings of the Vishakha Committee constituted at KGMU, which had reportedly found Dr Sajeen guilty in connection with the allegations under examination. Acting on the findings of the STF investigation, the state government has now formally directed the university to initiate proceedings against the individuals identified in the report. On October 30, Joint Secretary Anand Kumar Tripathi sent a letter to the KGMU Registrar, instructing the administration to take necessary action against the doctors, professors and other employees concerned in accordance with the applicable rules. –IANS sd/skp
