
TOKYO(RAHNUMA): Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu and Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani agreed on the necessity of de-escalating tensions in the Arabian Gulf and concurred on the need to ensure free and safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
During telephone talks on Thursday, Minister Motegi stressed the importance of maintaining the ceasefire between the United States and Iran and finalizing an agreement quickly. He also highlighted the need for safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, noting that Japan continues to support US-Iran talks and collaborates with Qatar and the international community.
According to Japan’s Foreign Ministry, Motegi remarked that speaking with Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed was timely given the critical phase of US-Iran relations, and he commended Qatar for its mediation efforts.
Motegi also highlighted the long-standing energy partnership between Japan and Qatar, requesting continued cooperation to ensure a stable energy supply.
Additionally, Motegi offered condolences regarding the death of former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Industry Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, acknowledging his significant contributions to Qatar’s LNG industry and the relationship between the two nations.
In response, Sheikh Mohammed underscored the value of diplomacy and dialogue in resolving disputes. He affirmed Qatar’s commitment to working with Japan to de-escalate the conflict and stabilize the Strait of Hormuz.
The Qatari Prime Minister also said his country will pursue further strengthening of bilateral cooperation with Japan, including in the energy field.
Both parties committed to ongoing cooperation to promote peace and stability in the Middle East over the medium and long term.
