LONDON(RAHNUMA): The Palestine Red Crescent Society evacuated 33 patients and their 40 companions from the Gaza Strip on Tuesday so that they could receive medical treatment in Egypt.
With help from the World Health Organization, the group left from the Medical Rehabilitation Hospital and traveled through the Rafah crossing, the Palestine News Agency reported.
The Palestinian healthcare system has struggled to provide advanced treatment to patients due to a lack of supplies. Medical facilities in the enclave have lost 76 percent of their imaging equipment since the start of Israel’s military campaign in 2023.
Israel has also imposed restrictions on the supply of medical and humanitarian supplies to Gaza, which it considers could be used by the military as well as civilians. Items include crutches, ventilators, ultrasound equipment, oxygen cylinders and even children’s toys.
Several international organizations have accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, where more than 72,000 people have been killed in the conflict.
The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for several Israeli leaders on charges of war crimes, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
