Ponnam calls for public participation in preserving Basaveshwara’s social vision

Hyderabad, April 20 (RAHNUMA): Minister for Transport Ponnam Prabhakar stated that Basaveshwara’s philosophy must be understood in the context of changing times, and his life, vision, and ideals should be studied and followed.

The Minister announced that the state government has established a corporation in honour of Basaveshwara and the foundation stone for the Basaveshwara Bhavan will be laid soon.

Under the aegis of the Telangana Backward Classes Welfare department, the 893rd birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Basaveshwara were held at Ravindra Bharathi in Hyderabad on Monday. Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Vakiti Srihari attended as chief guests at the programme.

On the occasion, the Ministers paid rich tributes to Mahatma Basaveshwara, stating that he was a notable thinker who taught society the values of equality, social justice, and ethical living.

Ponnam Prabhakar said that not only the government, but also followers and descendants of Basaveshwara should actively participate in these initiatives.

Referring to Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, he stated that the spirit of Basaveshwara’s ideals was reflected in the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Ponnam Prabhakar further stated that that efforts will be made to educate future generations about Basaveshwara’s philosophy.

“Mahatma Basaveshwara dedicated his life to eliminating caste discrimination and spreading the principle that all human beings are equal,” he said.

The Minister advocated equal rights for women, and his reforms in this regard remain exemplary even today.

“Basaveshwara’s contribution to the upliftment of marginalised communities is immense. The three core principles he upheld—justice, equality, and righteousness—continue to guide present and future generations,” Ponnam Prabhakar said.

The Minister called upon people to practice these values and work towards building an inclusive and equal society.

Members of Parliament Suresh Shetkar, Police Housing Corporation Chairman Gurunath Reddy, Hyderabad CP Sajjanar, BC Corporation Chairman Noothi Srikanth Goud, Fisheries Corporation Chairman Mettu Sai Kumar, former MP B. B. Patil, BC Welfare Department Secretary Balamayadevi, along with other prominent leaders and officials, participated in the programme.
