Hyderabad, June 16 (RAHNUMA): Arunodaya Samskrutika Samakhya leader Vimalakka demanded that the Congress government immediately fulfill its pre-election promises on education and halt any move to close government schools.
Speaking at a meeting organized by the Mothers’ Association at the Basheerbagh Press Club here on Tuesday, Vimalakka alongwith State Convener Bhagyalakshmi Tokala, said education and healthcare are the government’s foremost responsibilities and that strengthening these sectors would reduce the need for welfare schemes.
She criticized proposals to shut down government schools, stating that such a move would deprive poor children of educational opportunities. Pointing out that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy himself studied in a government school, she urged the government to abandon the idea of closure of schools.
Expressing concern over the future of public education, Vimalakka noted that villagers are voluntarily forming committees to improve government schools. She called for a broad consultation involving educationists, teachers, parents, civil society groups, and education protection committees to formulate a roadmap for strengthening public education. “Public education must remain accessible to every child”, she asserted.
