LONDON(RAHNUMA): The Royal Jordanian Air Force assisted a UN mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo with a rescue and medical evacuation after a small passenger plane crashed on Thursday.
A Black Hawk helicopter operated by the force conducted the action as part of the UN Organization Stabilization Mission. The force took off from Beni-Mavivi Airport to airlift an injured pilot and mechanic, along with the co-pilot’s body, from the crash site, which was 200 km away from the airfield.
The helicopter was dispatched at the request of UN leadership after local Congolese forces were unable to access the crash site, according to the Jordan News Agency.
The leadership of the UN mission commended the Jordanian unit’s swift response, operational effectiveness, and dedication to international peacekeeping and humanitarian support efforts.
The stabilization mission, known as MONUSCO and based in the capital Kinshasa, was established in 2010 to protect civilians and promote peace in the country.
