
Hyderabad, June 11 (RAHNUMA): Lieutenant General Sandeep Jain, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Southern Command, Pune, called on Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Lok Bhavan on Thursday as part of his official visit to the State.
Senior military officers of the Southern Command were also present during the meeting.
During the interaction, Lt. Gen. Jain briefed the Governor on various initiatives, welfare programmes and security measures being undertaken under the jurisdiction of the Southern Command.
Later, Malka Komaraiah, MLC representing the Medak–Nizamabad–Adilabad–Karimnagar Teachers’ Constituency, called on the Governor at Lok Bhavan.
Prof. C.V. Narasimhulu, Principal of Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology (CBIT), Gandipet, also met the Governor.
Sidda Venkata Surya Prakasa Rao, International President of Vasavi Clubs International, along with other members of the organisation, called on Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Lok Bhavan.
Leaders of the National Adivasi Girijana Abhyudaya Sangham, led by its president Chanda Lingayya Dora, met Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Lok Bhavan on Thursday.
On the occasion, the representatives urged the Governor to ensure the effective implementation of the Panchayats (extension to scheduled areas) Act (PESA) and Regulation 1 of 1970 in the Scheduled Areas of Telangana, in accordance with the provisions of the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution.
They also appealed for entrusting the responsibility of sand and mineral resource extraction in tribal areas to local tribal communities and ensuring that the revenues generated are utilised exclusively for the development of tribal regions.
The delegation further requested the Governor to take special initiatives for the preservation and promotion of the culture and languages of Adivasi and tribal communities.
