STUDENTS OPPOSE GO 97, SEEK PROTECTION FOR POLYTECHNIC DIPLOMAS

Hyderabad, Aug.19 (RAHNUMA): Polytechnic students and student organisations have urged the Telangana Government to withdraw GO 97, expressing concern over the proposed restructuring of technical education involving Polytechnic colleges, Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs) under the Young India Skills University (YISU) and SHAKTI framework.

Students said the three-year Polytechnic Diploma courses have their own curriculum, academic standards, professional recognition, higher-education pathways and employment opportunities. They warned that merging diploma education with ITI-level skill training could dilute the value and recognition of Polytechnic qualifications.

The students demanded a comprehensive review of the proposed reforms and called for consultations with students, faculty members, technical education experts and other stakeholders.

They cautioned that any unplanned restructuring could affect technical employment eligibility, higher education opportunities and the career prospects of thousands of diploma holders.

The students stressed that while skill development should be strengthened, the identity, academic standards, recognition and career opportunities of Polytechnic diploma education must be fully protected.
