TELANGANA EYES WIND POWER SURGE, BAGS NATIONAL RENEWABLE ENERGY AWARD

Hyderabad, June 15 (RAHNUMA): Telangana highlighted its vast wind energy potential at the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s (MNRE) Global Wind Day 2026 National Conference held in Goa. The state was represented by Navin Mittal, Special Chief Secretary (Energy), and V. Anila, Vice-Chairman & Managing Director of TGREDCO.

In a major recognition, Telangana received the “Inclusive Enterprise and Ecosystem Development Award” from Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi. Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy; Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary, MNRE; and senior officials from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) and the National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE), along with State nodal agencies, regulators, developers and equipment manufacturers from across the country also attended the conference.

According to assessments by the National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE), Telangana possesses a significant untapped wind energy potential of 4,240 MW at 100 m hub height, 24,835 MW at 120 m, and 54,717 MW at 150 m hub height. High wind-density zones have been identified across the erstwhile districts of Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar, Rangareddy, Medak, Hyderabad and Nizamabad.

While the state has commissioned 128.8 MW of wind energy capacity so far, officials said the sector offers immense opportunities for rapid expansion through competitive bidding, pre-cleared land availability and assured power evacuation infrastructure.
