Telangana launches mega Pulse Polio drive to vaccinate 42 lakh children

Hyderabad, June 28 (RAHNUMA): Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha officially launched the statewide Pulse Polio immunization campaign on Sunday by administering vaccine drops to children at the Borabanda Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad on Sunday.

The event was attended by Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Minister for SC,ST Welfare Adluri Laxman Kumar, and local MLA Naveen Yadav.

During the occasion, Damodar Raja Narasimha announced that the Medical and Health department has developed a comprehensive plan to administer polio drops to an estimated 42 lakh children across Telangana. He further elaborated that 229 polio booths have been established statewide for the Pulse Polio programme, complemented by teams stationed at 903 mobile transit points. To guarantee the program’s effectiveness, the State Health department has secured 52 lakh doses of the bOPV vaccine and mobilized a substantial workforce, including 2,298 route supervisors, 8,393 ANMs, 27,181 ASHA workers, and 34,442 Anganwadi workers.

Despite the absence of polio cases in the state, Damodar Rajanarsimha emphasised that precautionary measures are being implemented, alongside an intensified government-led awareness campaign to promote polio vaccination among the people.

The Minister underscored the importance of administering the mandatory two polio drops to children between 0 and 5 years of age, stating it would ‘bring brightness into their lives.’ He also informed the public that the polio drops would be accessible from June 28 to 30.
