Telangana Police Seize Rs 43 Lakh Worth of Spurious Drugs, Arrest Two Individuals

Hyderabad  1st March 2024:In a significant operation, Telangana Police, in collaboration with local authorities, successfully apprehended two individuals and seized a substantial consignment of counterfeit drugs valued at approximately Rs 43 lakh. The arrests were made following a raid conducted at a pharmaceutical company named Nectar Herbs and Drugs located in Sidcul, Kotdwar.

According to Hyderabad’s Drugs Inspector Kiran Kumar Jannu, the raid, which commenced on Wednesday night and extended into Thursday, resulted in the arrest of the factory owner, Vishad Kumar, and a factory worker named Sachin Kumar. Both individuals hail from different regions, with Vishad Kumar being a resident of Chandpur, Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, and Sachin Kumar residing in Mohanpura Roorkee, Uttarakhand.

The raid was carried out after thorough investigation and collaboration between Telangana Police, local law enforcement, and the Crime Intelligence Unit. Authorities were able to gather sufficient evidence to substantiate the production and distribution of counterfeit medicines from the factory premises.

The seized drugs, manufactured under the guise of a multinational pharmaceutical company’s brand, were found to be fake and potentially hazardous to public health. The operation underscores the dangers posed by the proliferation of counterfeit pharmaceuticals in the market and the necessity of stringent enforcement measures to combat such illicit activities.

The process of obtaining transit remand for the accused is currently underway, indicating a swift response by law enforcement authorities to bring those responsible to justice. The arrests serve as a warning to perpetrators of illegal pharmaceutical practices and highlight the commitment of Telangana Police to safeguard public health and uphold the integrity of the pharmaceutical industry.
