New Delhi, Aug.26 (RAHNUMA): Telangana will host the eighth edition of the “Khelo India Youth Games” this year, with competitions scheduled across Hyderabad, Warangal, Karimnagar and Mahabubnagar.
About 6,000 athletes from across the country are expected to compete in 25 sports disciplines. Telangana may also propose one indigenous sport, while another new discipline is expected to be added to the programme.
The Centre has released Rs.22 crore for organising this event, which will be conducted jointly by the Telangana government, Sports Authority of India, National Sports Federations and other participating bodies.
Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy welcomed Telangana being chosen as the host state and said the Centre’s focus on sports infrastructure and initiatives such as Khelo India had helped nurture sporting talent across the country. He said sports facilities worth around Rs.30 crore had been developed in Telangana under the Khelo India scheme.
