TGIC to host national conference on uniform implementation of RTI Act

Hyderabad, Sept.9 (RAHNUMA): The Telangana Information Commission (TGIC) will organise a two-day National Conference on “Operational Uniformity in Implementation of RTI: Challenges and Solutions” at the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), Hyderabad, on September 10 and 11.

The conference is being sponsored by the National Federation of Information Commissioners in India (NFICI) and organised in collaboration with ASCI.

The conference assumes national significance as it will bring together Chief Information Commissioners, Information Commissioners, legal experts, policymakers and senior administrators from across the country.

Around 20 State Chief Information Commissioners are expected to participate. Many of them are former Chief Secretaries and senior IAS and IPS officers. Eminent legal professionals, policymakers and senior administrators will also attend.

The Telangana Governor has consented to be the Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony and deliver the keynote address.

The conference will provide a national platform to share experiences, examine emerging challenges and deliberate on measures to strengthen the implementation of the Right to Information Act, 2005.

Its key objective is to promote greater consistency, efficiency, transparency and predictability in the functioning of Information Commissions, while ensuring that every case is examined on its own facts and in accordance with the provisions of law.

The conference will also facilitate the exchange of best practices among Information Commissions and explore practical solutions to improve the delivery of information to citizens.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will participate in a dinner interaction at ASCI on September 10 along with the Central Chief Information Commissioner and participating State Chief Information Commissioners.

The interaction is expected to provide an opportunity for an informal exchange of views on strengthening transparency and accountability and ensuring the effective implementation of the RTI framework.
