Hyderabad, July 29 (RAHNUMA): In one of the largest Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives hosted by the University of Hyderabad (UoH) in recent years, 100 visually impaired beneficiaries were provided with Ultra Version Smart Vision Glasses (SVGs), each valued at around Rs.48,000, at a special distribution programme organized by the Empowered committee for differently abled persons (ECDAP).
The AI-powered assistive devices enable users to read printed text in English and major Indian languages, identify people and objects, recognize currency notes, and navigate obstacles, significantly enhancing independence for persons with visual impairments.
The beneficiaries included students and individuals from Telangana and other states such as Haryana, Odisha, and West Bengal. The initiative was supported by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) under its CSR programme, implemented by the Blind Vision foundation, with the devices manufactured by SHG technology private limited.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Pammi Pavan Kumar, Coordinator of ECDAP, reaffirmed UoH’s commitment to promoting accessibility and inclusion for persons with disabilities. Other speakers highlighted the transformative role of assistive technology in improving mobility, education, and everyday living for the visually impaired.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks acknowledging the support of NPCI, the Blind Vision Foundation, the UoH administration, and student volunteers for making the large-scale outreach programme a success.
