Hyderabad, Aug.12 (NSS): Former Irrigation Minister Harish Rao has challenged State Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao to say that the credit for the construction of Sitarama project did not belong to former CM KCR by keeping his hand on his heart. Harish Rao recalled that the same Tummala Nageswara Rao had said in the past that KCR had made the project into a reality.
Speaking to media persons at Telangana Bhavan in the city, he said the Congress leaders had said they would erase the traces of KCR and added that it was their moral success that the ruling party leaders were claiming KCR’s achievements as their own. “If you look at your struggle, we have won morally. Not a single good work has been done in these eight months. While we were working for the construction of Sitarama project, the same Congress leaders had filed cases in the courts.
Speaking on the occasion of laying the foundation stone of the project, Tummala Nageswara Rao said the Sitarama project was his life’s dream and aspiration. Today, the same Tummala Nageswara Rao has changed his word,” he alleged. He asked whether without KCR, would the Sitarama project have been designed in such a grand manner? “Sitarama project is KCR’s dream. This is the result of his efforts,” he claimed. Harish Rao said KCR had thought with a very far-reaching view.
He said KCR had designed the Sitarama lift irrigation project to make Khammam district a two-crop district. “The water capacity of Rajiv Sagar and Indira Sagar is 3,000 cusecs. But KCR thought of bringing 9,000 cusecs of water to the Sitarama project. Projects are not built for votes. Projects are constructed for future needs. Even if there is no water in Krishna, KCR wanted to supplement sagar ayacut with Godavari waters,” Harish Rao said and added that KCR had designed the Sitarama project to provide irrigation water to every acre in Khammam district. Rao claimed that 90% of the project had been completed during the BRS regime.
