Workshop on Applications of Space Technology in Earth Science

Hyderabad, Aug.12 (NSS)Geological Survey of India Training Institute (GSITI), Hyderabad, Ministry of Mines conducted workshop on “Applications of Space Technology in Earth Science” in commemoration of “National Space Day”-2024. The program was conducted under the guidance of Dr Mathew Joseph, Deputy Director General & Head, M-V, GSI Training Institute, Hyderabad.

The workshop aims to showcase space science, technologies and its practical applications in Earth Sciences to Captivate and Motivate student communities and to the younger generation. The program started with welcome address by Dr Nisha Rani, Director, Geological Survey of India Training Institute. Dr P.V.  Radha Devi, Director, Advanced Data Processing Research Institute, Department of Space, Hyderabad inaugurated the workshop.

In her address, she stressed up the applications of space technology in Earth Sciences. Dr T.M. Balakrishnan, Scientist, INOIS; Dr Iswar Chandra Das, Scientist, ISRO; Dr Senthil Kumar P., Scientist, NGRI also attended as guests of honours. During workshop, lectures were delivered on Evolution of Indian Space Program and Space Applications, Space Technology in Geosciences, Ocean, Geology of the Chandrayaan-3 Landing Site and GSI’s Training Endeavour for the Utilization of Space Technology.

The discussion during workshop has given different dimension to the young generation and the future scope of the space technology. The individuals were motivated by advancements in space technology and expressed their satisfaction with the various training programs provided by GSITI for researchers, faculty members, and academicians. Faculty members, officer & staff of GSITI along with the students from Osmania University, Indu International school, Bhasyam School, Minority School, Sanskrit School and Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering attended the workshop. The outcome of this event would be presented during the “National Space Day” celebration on August 22 & 23 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. R. Vijay Kumar, Director, GSITI also spoke.
