Hyderabad, Nov.20 (NSS): The Telangana High Court has pulled up the police for the manner in which former Kodangal MLA Patnam Narender Reddy was arrested. Narender Reddy had filed a petition in the High Court challenging his arrest and remand in connection with the Lagacharla village violent incident.
The High Court heard the arguments on the remand order and quash petition of Narender Reddy. The court directed the Public Prosecutor to give the recorded statements on the role of Narender Reddy. On this occasion, the arrest was blamed by the apex court. “Why was he arrested when he went for a walk at KBR Park? Why did the former MLA have to be arrested like a terrorist? Is Narender Reddy on the run,” it asked. The court said injuries of the officers, who were attacked were not properly reported and added that it was written that there were minor injuries. It also expressed its displeasure over the police’s failure to follow the Supreme Court’s rules regarding the arrest of Narender Reddy.
However, the PP told the bench that Narender Reddy had spoken in a manner that provoked the people. He said if the petition is allowed at this stage, it would have an impact on the investigation. The PP requested the court to dismiss the petition seeking quashing of the remand order. The government had initially planned to set up a pharma city in 1,350 acres of land at Lagacharla and Polepalli villages in Dudyala mandal of Vikarabad district.
It has been decided to set up an industrial corridor. For this purpose, a gram sabha was held and a referendum was taken up. The police have registered a case against several farmers and BRS leaders for allegedly assaulting the Vikarabad district Collector, who had come for the referendum. Narender Reddy was arrested by the police while he was on a morning walk at KBR Park in Hyderabad for his alleged involvement in the incident. He was arrested and produced in court. The court remanded him to 14-day judicial custody. He filed a petition in the High Court challenging his remand.
