
Hyderabad, June 18 (RAHNUMA): Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has directed the concerned officials to initiate the election process for TGSRTC’s recognized unions after consultations with the election officer, signaling the imminent release of the election schedule.
Reviewing TGSRTC’s performance at the Secretariat here on Thursday, the minister said the government procured 2,815 new buses worth Rs.1,078 crore between 2023 and 2026 and sanctioned new depots at Eturunagaram and Peddapalli. He also announced implementation of 11 percent fitment under RPS-2021 from July1, fulfilling a promise made during the RTC strike.
The minister highlighted that compassionate appointments had been provided to 1,137 dependents, while arrears under CSS, PF and other employee welfare schemes had been substantially reduced. Officials were instructed to expedite pending compassionate appointments, review remaining dismissed employee cases and accelerate construction of bus stations and depots across the state.
“Due to measures taken by the government to improve the RTC’s financial health, CSS arrears have decreased from Rs.1,096.90 crores to Rs.862 crore and PF arrears have dropped from Rs.2,018.15 crores to Rs.1,714.39 crores. Additionally, SRBS and SBT arrears were reduced by Rs.493.02 crore”, the minister revealed.
TGSRTC currently operates 10,173 buses, employs 38,128 staff, covers 35 lakh km daily and serves around 61 lakh passengers every day, officials informed the meeting.
On this occasion, the minister ordered for taking steps to organize a special meeting with Transport Ministers, Principal Secretaries, Commissioners and RTC Managing Directors from South Indian states to discuss pollution control, the EV policy and the expansion of electric bus services. He also directed the officials to expedite the land transfer processes required for the development of RTC bus stations.
RTC Managing Director Nagi Reddy, Executive Directors, and senior officials from various departments participated in the review meeting.
