
Hyderabad, July 6 (RAHNUMA): The Telangana Fire, Disaster Response, Emergency and Civil Defence department has launched 5-day Civil Defence Volunteer Training Programmes at Malla Reddy, deemed to be University, in Medchal-Malkajgiri and Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Women’s University (VCIWU) in Hyderabad to strengthen the state’s disaster preparedness.
The programme at Malla Reddy University was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Dr P Ravinder Reddy where 400 volunteers will receive training in emergency management and disaster response.
Meanwhile, the second batch of training commenced at VCI Women’s University, Koti, with 200 Civil Defence volunteers and 50 faculty and staff members participating in the inaugural session.
Director General Vikram Singh Mann said the initiative aims to create a trained volunteer force capable of acting as first responders during floods, fires, and other emergencies until professional rescue teams arrive.
The volunteers will receive both theoretical and practical training in rescue operations, firefighting, first aid, crowd management, disaster preparedness, community awareness and relief distribution. They will work alongside the Fire Services, Police, NDRF, and other government agencies during emergencies.
The Director General directed the district authorities concerned to maintain updated databases of trained Civil Defence Volunteers for their effective deployment during emergency situations.
