Hyderabad, July 30 (RAHNUMA): Minister for IT and Industries D. Sridhar Babu directed officials to undertake flood relief and rehabilitation measures on a war footing in Godavarikhani, Peddapalli and the Singareni coal belt, where incessant heavy rainfall over the past two days has inundated several residential colonies.
The Minister on Thursday reviewed the flood situation through a video conference from the Secretariat with the District Collector of Peddapalli, Chairman and Managing Director of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), Executive Director of NTPC, Chairman and Managing Director of Telangana GENCO, officials of Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (RFCL), the Ramagundam Police Commissioner and other senior officials.
Government Whip and Peddapalli MLA Chinthakunta Venkataramana Rao and Ramagundam MLA Makkan Singh Raj Thakur also participated in the review meeting.
The Minister instructed officials to remove all obstructions in drainage channels to facilitate the speedy evacuation of stagnant floodwater from the Ramagundam industrial area. He urged SCCL and NTPC officials to actively participate in relief operations and extend full cooperation to the district administration.
Reviewing the situation in Veerlapalli village, where residential areas have been inundated, the Minister directed officials to divert floodwaters through an alternative channel to prevent further flooding of the village. He also instructed the Peddapalli District Collector to expedite the process of issuing house site pattas so that eligible beneficiaries could construct Indiramma houses.
Noting the severe flooding in Godavarikhani, the Minister directed the Ramagundam Police Commissioner to ensure full support from the police department to the municipal and revenue authorities in carrying out relief operations. He also instructed officials to ensure uninterrupted traffic movement on major roads and deploy disaster response teams across Ramagundam without delay.
The Minister expressed satisfaction that nearly 80 per cent of the 1,021 tanks in Peddapalli district have been filled due to the heavy rains, which would ensure adequate irrigation water for approximately 2.7 lakh acres of agricultural land. He further stated that the water storage in the Sripada Yellampalli Project is expected to reach 20 TMC by Thursday evening. He instructed officials to continuously monitor water levels and ensure that not a single drop of water is wasted.
The Minister also directed Singareni and District Medical and Health department officials to organise special medical camps in flood-affected Veerlapalli village, Godavarikhani and the Ramagundam industrial area. He instructed officials to remain vigilant, work in close coordination with local public representatives, and ensure that people do not face any inconvenience during the relief operations.
