Hyderabad, May 15 (RAHNUMA): CPI MLC Nellikanti Satyam on Friday criticised the BJP-led Central Government over the increase in petrol and diesel prices, alleging that the move was placing a severe burden on common people across the country. Despite a fall in international crude oil prices, the Centre had failed to reduce domestic fuel prices and was instead “looting the public” through heavy taxation, he remarked.
Satyam said the hike in fuel prices had triggered a sharp rise in the prices of essential commodities, severely affecting common citizens, farmers and workers. He noted that increased transportation costs were having a cascading impact on all sectors.
The CPI leader demanded that the Central Government immediately reduce excise duties to bring petrol and diesel prices under control and ease the burden on the public. He also urged the Centre to immediately abandon its “anti-people policies”.
