Centre should declare floods as national calamity: CPI

Hyderabad, Sept.9 (NSS)The CPI state committee today demanded that the central government should declare the recent floods in Telangana as a national calamity and provide at least Rs 10,000 crore as flood assistance besides providing  all possible assistance to the victims of the heavy rains and floods in the state. The CPI said that it was highly objectionable that the Central government was treating Andhra Pradesh in one way and Telangana in another way in providing the assistance to the flood victims and urged the Centre to give up this stand. The CPI has appealed to the central government to provide compensation in a purely scientific manner and not in the old system.

CPI state secretary and MLA Koonamneni Sambasiva Rao, accompanied by CPI national executive member Chada Venkat Reddy  Pashya Padma, national council member Palla Venkat Reddy , CPI state assistant secretaries Thakkallapalli Srinivas N Balamallesh and secretariat member M Balanarasimha, addressed a press conference organised at the party’s  state office Maqdoom  bhavan in Hyderabad on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Kumamneni said that It was unfortunate that the people of many districts of the state should have humanely helped those who are reeling under severe grief due to the heavy rains and floods. Rao demanded that the central government should ensure that adequate assistance was provided with humanity and added that  it was not right to do politics in such a crisis situation. He announced that the CPI was providing all possible assistance to the flood victims on its part and added that as part of this, the party had decided to donate his one-month salary of Rs 2.50 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

Sambasiva Rao expressed his displeasure that the central government had created a savage war by killing the Maoists in the name of ‘N’. “Soon after Home Minister Amit Shah recently announced that the Maoists would be completely eliminated by 2026 from their existence, the series of “n-n” was taking place. “I demand the Centre   that the violence be stopped immediately,” he said. Rao said there were  constitutionally established judicial laws about  who has the power to shoot and kill anyone who is at fault. He made it clear that they would  not support the Maoists if they make mistakes.
