CSIR-IICT PARTNERS WITH VIRIDIS BIO-PHARMA FOR DIABETIC FOOT ULCER TREATMENT

Hyderabad, Aug.12 (RAHNUMA): The CSIR–Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT), Hyderabad, has signed a Technology Transfer Agreement with Viridis Biopharma Pvt. Ltd. for an IND-ready phytopharmaceutical developed from Gymnema sylvestre for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers.

The technology, developed by researchers of CSIR-IICT’s Department of Applied Biology under the leadership of Dr. Anthony Addlagatta, with Dr. Srigiridhar Kotamraju and Dr. Aruna Jangam as key members, also has potential applications in chronic wounds and inflammatory skin disorders.

Developed under the CSIR Phytopharmaceutical Mission Phase-III, the formulation has undergone extensive botanical standardisation, pharmacological and mechanism-of-action studies, analytical characterisation, pharmacokinetic evaluation, formulation and GMP process development, stability testing and GLP-compliant safety studies. The research has also secured patent protection in India and international jurisdictions, resulting in a comprehensive IND-ready data package.

CSIR-IICT Director Dr. Srinivasa Reddy said the technology transfer reflects the institute’s commitment to converting scientific research into innovative and affordable healthcare solutions. He stressed that academia–industry partnerships are crucial for accelerating innovation, strengthening India’s biopharmaceutical ecosystem and developing world-class therapies.

The agreement marks a significant step in taking publicly funded research from scientific discovery and intellectual property generation to technology commercialisation, regulatory development and eventual clinical evaluation.

The collaboration further strengthens CSIR-IICT’s efforts in translational research, evidence-based botanical drug development and the creation of globally competitive phytopharmaceutical products.
