Hyderabad, July 23 (RAHNUMA): Minister for Irrigation and Civil Supplies N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said the recent developments in Delhi have highlighted a widening gap between the ruling BJP government at the Centre and the hopes and dreams of young people across India.
He asserted that democratic engagement—not repression—was the only way to address the concerns of students and young citizens.
In a press statement on Thursday, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that at a time when lakhs of students were demanding transparency, accountability and fairness in public examinations and governance, the response of the Central government had been one of confrontation rather than dialogue.
He said the Indian National Congress had consistently stood with students, youth and ordinary citizens seeking justice through peaceful and democratic means.
The Minister hailed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s decision for standing with protesting students and young people, describing his actions as an example of courageous, compassionate and principled leadership.
“Instead of remaining a distant political observer, Rahul Gandhi chose to stand shoulder to shoulder with students and young citizens who feel unheard. His willingness to raise their concerns and defend their democratic rights reflects the kind of politics India needs today—politics based on empathy, accountability and constitutional values,” Uttam Kumar Reddy said.
He observed that there was a growing desire across the country, particularly among the younger generation, for a new political culture that valued honesty over propaganda, dialogue over intimidation and public service over the politics of division.
“The developments in Delhi were not merely about one protest or one political party but reflected a broader national debate on the future of Indian democracy. India’s democratic traditions had always grown stronger when governments listened to people instead of attempting to silence them,” he said
Uttam Kumar Reddy said an increasing number of citizens were looking towards Rahul Gandhi as the principal democratic alternative capable of providing a compassionate, inclusive and forward-looking vision for India.
Expressing confidence in the Congress leadership, Uttam Kumar Reddy said he looked forward to Rahul Gandhi leading the party to victory in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections and assuming the office of Prime Minister.
