
Hyderabad, July 13 (RAHNUMA): The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), AP Licensed Service Area (LSA), organized a high-level security conference in Hyderabad on Monday to strengthen coordination among telecom, banking and law enforcement agencies in combating cyber fraud and telecom-related crimes.
The conference was attended by Anand Khare, Director General (Telecom); Deepa Arora, Special Director General (Telecom); V.C. Sajjanar, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad; Harshvardhan, SP, Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB); senior officers from CID; senior officers from the DoT Headquarters; officers of DoT AP LSA; and representatives from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), State Bank of India (SBI), Telecom Service Providers (TSPs), and other stakeholders.
Director General (Telecom) Anand Khare said DoT’s initiatives over the past two years have led to the disconnection of over five crore fraudulent mobile connections, recovery of more than 12 lakh lost and stolen mobile phones, and prevention of cyber frauds worth over Rs.1,800 crore through the Financial Fraud Risk Indicator framework.
The AP LSA also reported busting 11 illegal telecom and cybercrime setups during 2025-26 and recovering around 2.04 lakh stolen mobile handsets, the highest in the country.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar highlighted the success of Operation Octopus 3.0 against organized cyber fraud networks. During the event, Anand Khare inaugurated DoT’s first Network Security Laboratory at the Hyderabad unit to enhance cyber security training and threat analysis.
Representatives from the RBI delivered a presentation on the initiatives undertaken by RBI to strengthen the financial sector’s resilience against cyber frauds. The TGCSB presented its initiatives on the application of Artificial Intelligence in the telecom sector to enhance cyber defense capabilities.
