Hyderabad, Dec.5 (NSS): Stressing the importance of encouraging electric vehicles in a big way, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has informed that the State government will purchase 3,000 electric buses in next two years and protect Hyderabad city from the pollution.
Participating in the ‘Praja Palana Vijayotsavalu’ celebrations organised by the Transport department here on Thursday, the Chief Minister said there was a need to encourage the people to buy electric vehicles and it was the responsibility of the Transport department to create awareness about the new technology.
“Officials should prepare the plans to offer incentives to run electric autos in Hyderabad city as the government has the responsibility to make the city pollution-free,” he said.
Stating that the Transport department should play a key role in controlling pollution in the city, he suggested that it was a responsibility to scrap the old vehicles in the State.
He further stated that the free bus travel scheme has helped the revival of the TSRTC and brought cheers in the lives of the RTC workers, the Chief Minister said that 115 crore women had availed the free bus travel facility in 11 months and 20 days and every woman saved at least Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000 from the scheme.
