Hyderabad, May 27 (RAHNUMA): Minister for Labour and Mines Dr. G. Vivek Venkataswamy assured farmers that the Telangana government will procure every single grain harvested this season and will not allow any political attempts to incite them into protests.
The Minister made these remarks on Wednesday during his visit to the IKP grain procurement centre at Tekumatla in Jaipur mandal of Mancherial district, where he inspected the procurement process and directly interacted with farmers.
Dr. Vivek Venkataswamy stated that this season’s crop yield has been exceptionally good.
“While 1.10 lakh tonnes of grain were procured last season, the government has extended procurement till June 6 this year with a target of procuring up to 1.70 lakh tonnes,” he said.
The Minister informed that three warehouses have been prepared in Peddapalli for smooth storage. He acknowledged minor delays due to shortage of hamalis and lorries, but said immediate steps are being taken to resolve them, including a request made to Singareni Collieries for additional vehicles.
Criticising BRS leaders, the Minister said they are deliberately trying to create unrest and stage protests even as procurement is progressing smoothly. “BRS leaders are frustrated after being rejected by the people. At a time when farmers should be reassured, they are attempting to incite them into agitation,” the Minister said.
Vivek Venkataswamy warned that the government will not tolerate anyone taking the law into their hands or destroying government property for political gains and that strict legal action will be initiated in such cases.
Referring to Balka Suman’s claim of spending ₹100 crore in the last elections, the Minister demanded that he disclose the source of the funds to the public and tender an apology to the people of Telangana.
The Minister asserted that the Congress government is committed to safeguarding the interests of farmers and ensuring hassle-free procurement.
